Enhancing a Tradition of Excellence in York County Public SchoolsThe York Foundation for Public Education, Inc. is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, tax-exempt organization established in 1994 by local volunteers for the purpose of strengthening the public schools in York County. Our community is fortunate to have one of the finest education systems serving its children. The historic support for this system among its private and corporate citizens and its public officials has been long-standing and significant.
Mission Statement
The York Foundation for Public Education, Inc. is committed to supporting public education in York County by developing resources to encourage educational innovation, promote and recognize excellence and address the needs of all students, faculty and staff.
The York Foundation for Public Education, Inc. serves collaboratively with business and community members as an independent 501 (c) (3) organization.
Foundation Goals and Objectives
This Foundation is an effective partner and channel to further expand the support of the citizenry and business sector for this noble purpose. The goals and objectives adopted by this Foundation require collaborative effort of individuals, families and businesses to make our excellent school system better. It is this commitment of the Board of Trustees and other community members that make York County a great place to raise and educate children. In the pursuit of its mission, the York Foundation for Public Education, Inc. commits to the development of programs and support roles in four areas:
Goal 1/Educational Services. The York Foundation for Public Education, Inc. will support and promote excellence in the recruitment and retention of well-qualified teachers and the development and application of innovative and creative instructional practices to meet the needs of a diverse student population and changing environment.
- Objective 1. Offer an Innovative Instructional Grant Program to York County School Division teachers, which promotes the enhancement of curriculum in support of the Virginia Standards of Learning K-12 and Federal legislation.
- Objective 2. Assist in the orientation and retention of well-qualified teachers and school administrators.
- Objective 3. Establish a professional development scholarship program available to York County School Division teachers and school administrators which will encourage expansion and improvement of instructional methodologies in the classroom.
- Objective 4. Acknowledge and recognize exemplary professional performance of York County educators.
- Objective 1. Acknowledge and recognize exemplary achievement of K-12 students.
- Objective 2. Encourage York County student representation and participation in national or international competitions or conferences.
- Objective 3. Assist York County students to prepare for successful completion of high school and entrance into their chosen career paths. (i.e. Career Mentorship Program, Post-secondary scholarships, career awareness events).
- Objective 1. Engage community and/or increase parent involvement in meeting annual goals and objectives of the school.
- Objective 2. Support school-wide instructional initiatives designed to increase academic achievement for all students (Focus given to high-risk or academically challenged students.) Support may include include professional development and materials as necessary.
- Objective 3. Assist schools in providing a safe, secure, healthy and well-disciplined learning environment for all students.
- Objective 1. Provide an annual opportunity for citizens of York County, alumni, and employees of York County School Division to make financial contributions to the Foundation in order to meet its mission and goals.
- Objective 2. Maintain active participation in the Combined Federal Campaign of the Virginia Peninsula United Way.
- Objective 3. Sponsor at least one ticketed event annually.
- Objective 4. Enhance and expand the Foundation's marketing aids and public relations program to reach and involve all segments of the York County community.
