Student Performance on SOL Tests Continues to Improve

For the ninth year in a row, all YCSD schools will again meet Virginia's highest accreditation standards.

Highlights by level include:

Elementary:

  • Elementary English performance continued to be strong with overall student pass rates ranging between 86 to 95 percent with nine of 10 schools exceeding 90 percent.
  • Elementary math performance success rates were particularly impressive. All 10 elementary schools experienced overall pass rates of 96 percent or higher.

Middle:

  • Middle school English pass rates for all students combined increased, with pass rates at or above 91 percent in this category at all four schools.
  • Three of four middle schools met the AYP requirements for English performance. Grafton, Tabb and Queens Lake middle schools demonstrated gains in 5 of the 6 subgroups. Yorktown Middle experienced gains in 4 of the 6 subgroups.
  • All four middle schools demonstrated significant gains in reading performance for students with disabilities: GMS (10 percent increase), TMS (18 percent increase), QLMS (28 percent increase) and YMS (10 percent increase).
  • Middle school math pass rates ranged from 88 percent to 94 percent for all students. GMS, QLMS and TMS improved performance in 3 of 6 subgroups. YMS improved performance in 2 of the 6 subgroups.

High:

  • Overall student pass rates for English performance were strong and ranged from 94 to 100 percent. (YRA-100%)
  • Math performance held strong with an overall student pass rate for the five high schools ranging from 88 to 97 percent.
