Over the course of a school year, students take standardized tests to assess their understanding of the curriculum. These exams are designed by the state and are administered throughout the school year, but are primarily given in the spring.
High school students also may take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and Advanced Placement (AP) tests. Most colleges and universities require that prospective students take the SAT, and students can earn college credit through successful completion of AP courses and by earning high scores on AP exams.
Standardized test scores determine the school division's state accreditation and measure progress toward federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) targets. Additional information about state accreditation and NCLB is available through links provided on the right-side of this page.
