Standard Diploma (22-credit)


The following is an example of a four-year plan/schedule to graduate with a Standard diploma.

Grade 9:

  • English 9

  • World History I (to A.D. 1000)

  • Earth Science

  • Math

  • Health and PE 9

  • Fine/Practical Arts

  • Student Choice Elective

Grade 10:

  • English 10

  • World History II (A.D.1000 to the present)

  • Biology I

  • Math

  • Health and PE/Dr. Ed 10

  • Elective

  • Elective

Grade 11:

  • English 11

  • US/Virginia History

  • Environmental Science

  • Math

  • Elective

  • Elective

  • Elective

Grade 12:

  • English 12

  • US/Virginia Government

  • Elective (New Horizons course - early dismissal)

To graduate with a Standard or Modified Standard Diploma on or after July 1, 2003, students must have earned a minimum of two units of credit in sequential electives. This requirement affects students who were 9th graders in the fall of 2000 (Class of 2004) and any other students who graduate on or after July 1, 2003. A student fulfill the sequential elective requirement for the Standard or Modified Standard Diploma by meeting applicable prerequisites for and successfully completing a minimum of two sequential elective credits in a single subject area.
