Step Into Reading

What is new in Reading?

There are three special programs here at Bethel Manor to help our students do there best in Reading!

1.       Making Connections- This is a new program this year that is being used throughout York County.  It focuses on developing comprehension and fluency using nonfiction passages.  It is a semester long program targeting students who need further instruction in those areas.  This program is done in small groups (3-4) of students which meet every day for 30 minutes.

2.       Fundations-  The Wilson Fundations program focuses on helping those students who need help with phonemic awareness, spelling and decoding skills based on the results of the Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening test (PALS) that is given in the fall and spring of each year for K, 1, 2 and some 3 graders. This program is done in small groups (3-4) of students which meet every day for 30 minutes.

3.       Reading Recovery- This is a program that focuses on helping first grade students who need additional help to read at the first grade level.  This is a one-on-one program which can last no longer than 20 weeks.  The teacher meets with the child for 30 minutes of intense instruction aimed at getting the student caught up with their peers.
