Welcome to Coventry Elementary School

We earned the York County Model PTA Award.
PTA achieved membership of 104%.

Parent and community volunteers contributed more than 10,000 hours to our school.

Some of the items our PTA donated included:
Ø      acoustical tiles on cafeteria walls
Ø      Hands-On Science materials
Ø      library books
Ø      books for Reach For Reading  Awards
Ø      Accelerated Reader incentives 

Principal was awarded the National PTA Life Achievement Award.

Students and staff participated in the following community projects:
Ø      Food for the Salvation Army
Ø      Relay for Life
Ø      Heart Walk & Jump Rope for Heart
Ø      cards for the VA Medical Center veterans
Ø      American Red Cross Blood Drive
Ø      Donations for families in need after Hurricane Isabel
Ø      Staff exceeded our United Way goal

Volunteers provided the Hands-On Science
       Program in grades 4 and 5.

The SCA sponsored “fun days,” school spirit days, and skating parties.

Our PTA provided cultural arts programs for our students and the community.  These included the following:
v     Yorktown String Quartet
v     Jane Franklin Dance Company
v     Chamber Orchestra
v     Make & Take Art Night
v     Virginia Opera  
v     Violinist
v     The Loud Poet
v     The World of Jump Roping
v      Lewis and Clark

Coventry's Annual Career Day featured sixteen speakers. Our students had an opportunity to explore a wide range of careers such as:
v     plumber's use of closed circuit TV to locate obstructions in pipe lines
v     dog obedience school trainer
v     surgeon
v     massage therapist
v     life safety, and a host of others  

One student earned 1^st place in the district PTA Reflections competition.

The staff presented six Parent Universities on various topics for our community.

236 students in 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th grades earned the          National Physical Fitness Award.

57 of our fifth grade students earned the President’s Award for Educational Excellence.

188 students in grades 3, 4, and 5 earned the National Physical Fitness Award.

Odyssey of the Mind Team earned 1^st place in regional competition and 2^nd place in state competition.

68 students in 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th grades earned the Presidential Physical Fitness Award.

We welcomed one additional business partner to our school community.

Staff provided eleven before and after school classes in reading and/or math remediation.
