The York County School Division has employed geothermal heating and cooling systems in seven construction and renovation projects to date. The division has been very successful in lowering not only energy consumption, but maintenance intervals as a direct result of geothermal heating and cooling. All of the geothermal schools have earned the Energy Star certification. The division has given presentations on the energy savings resulting from retrofitting buildings with geothermal at many conferences. The division has also provided tours of the geothermal installations to architects, engineers and maintenance staff from other organizations and schools systems. Below are links to spreadsheets that detail all of the installed geothermal well fields, heat pumps and architects and engineers. The division will be retrofitting Dare Elementary School with the eighth geothermal system this summer. When that school is complete nearly half of the divisions schools will be geothermal.
