Mt. Vernon ES Media Center

Welcome!

Each Week your child will visit the media center for instruction and book selection. Instruction emphasizes literature appreciation, library and research skills to enhance the learning, and the promotion of intellectual and personal interests. Throughout the year, the teachers and the library media specialist collaborate on additional instruction to support the curriculum.

In addition to the classroom instruction, students are also given the time to select books to check out and take home. Books are checked out for one week at a time and must be returned before additional books may be checked out. Students may return books at any time and may check out books before school from 8:30 to 8:45, at the end of the day before 3:00, and during their scheduled class time.

HAPPY SUMMER READING FROM YOUR LIBRARY!

Thank you Spring Book Fair volunteers!

We had a Spectacular Spring Scholastic Book Fair the week of May 5th. The One for Books program during the Book Fair was able to raise over $250.00 for children in distressed situations. In addition, Scholastic matched the amount we raised which allowed me to buy over $250.00 worth of new books for the school library. Look for our new books in the fall!

Our school once again participated in the Virginia Young Readers Program sponsored by the State to encourage reading aloud and to expose children to new and different authors. Our school voted as our favorite in grades K-3, Once Upon a Time, the End by Geoffrey Kloske and in grades 3-5, Three Good Deeds by Vivian Vande Velde. Each year the children and I really enjoy reading aloud the new authors and titles highlighted in this special program.
