What is IPOP?
The York County IPOP is a language-based, preschool environment offering a wide variety of enriching activities in a nurturing, educational setting. This preschool program is designed to serve students who are typically developing (who serve as role models) and those with special needs. The Integrated Preschool Program is a four-day preschool experience for our role models zoned for any YCSD elementary school. Selected children will be attending their zoned IPOP School for a three-hour, Monday-Thursday program. The curriculum places emphasis on school readiness and socialization skills. Students are involved in school wide activities including resource classes as appropriate. The IPOP teachers are certified teachers with advanced backgrounds in education and have vast experience teaching children with a wide range of readiness levels.
How are children selected?
Typically developing students are chosen through a lottery system followed by a screening/play date. To be selected for the lottery drawing, your child must be at least three years of age by September 30, 2012, a resident of York County or a child of an YCSD employee. Additionally, each child must be toilet trained and demonstrate acceptable behavior from which other preschoolers will learn. The social behavior and communication of each child is important upon entering this program because the children selected will serve as role models for the students with special needs. Non-school age (3 & 4 years of age) role models who have successfully completed an IPOP school year may be invited to return the following school year. Parents interested in submitting their child's name for the lottery should complete an application and return it to their zoned IPOP School by April 20, 2012. Applications are available in all York County Elementary Schools and in the YCSD School Board Office.
What are the costs?
A fee for materials and supplies is required for students selected through the lottery. The fee for the 2012-2013 school year is $1,300.00. The fee is payable in two installments unless otherwise agreed upon by school administration.
