Verified Credit Academy

The Verified Credit Academy is designed for students who have passed the World History I, World History II, Virginia & U.S. History, Earth Science, Biology, or Chemistry courses, have scored between 375 and 399 on the SOL test for the course in one of at least two attempts, and therefore have not earned the required verified credit for graduation.

These students may participate in no more than two courses in the Verified Credit Academy. To earn verified credit through the Verified Credit Academy, students are required to complete specific assignments and a final project. Students are identified for the Verified Credit Academy by their school principal based on the criteria above. Tuition is not charged for the Verified Credit Academy, and parents who wish to enroll their child in this academy must contact their child's guidance counselor to complete the online registration.

Students in the Verified Credit Academy are required to meet twice with the academy facilitator as indicated below. At the first meeting, the facilitator will provide the student with a course syllabus, textbook, and assignment expectations, including the final project. At the second meeting, the student will submit his/her portfolio of completed work and the final project, however, additional days may be required for completion of assigned work. Verified Credit Academy work is completed independently by the student, although the facilitator is available to assist if needed. A school division committee reviews all Verified Credit Academy student portfolios and awards verified credit appropriately. Students must provide their own transportation.
