SOA Accolades Last updated January 2006

Founding Literary Arts instructor Jean Fripp put it best when she said SOA is a place for students with interests in all areas, both within and outside of the literary and performing arts. SOA students are varsity athletes, Honor Roll members, team captains, Junior Olympians, Honor Society members, volunteer sports coaches, science fair winners, 4-H members, JROTC members, camp counselors, National Leadership Conference award winners, art show winners, lifeguards, Girls and Boys State participants, volunteers, interns at VIMS, National Merit Scholars, and baby sitters.

Our students also perform and participate throughout the community in their home school theatre productions, shows with Backstage Productions, church musicals, EVSPA, music and dance recitals, music concerts, band and orchestra festivals and competitions, fife and drum corps, talent shows, and programs at Colonial Williamsburg.

Below, you'll find just a few of our students' specific achievements.

A fabulous pairing between two magnet programs, SOA's Reading Ambassador Program (click here for images) allows Literary Arts IV students the opportunity to work with students at Waller Mill Fine Arts Magnet Elementary School. These seniors in high school encourage K-5 students to further their reading abilities through oral reading, accelerated reading tests, phonics, and general reading skills.

SOA received a grant from the York Foundation for Public Education to fund the Artist in Residence program which will bring in local artists as guest instructors both in the visual arts and in music.
