During the early 1700's, Edward Tabb, an immigrant from England settled in the area and established a large plantation, hence the name, Tabb was given to the community. The original Tabb Elementary School was located on Cary's Chapel Road from 1900 to 1945. When the school closed, the students were sent to other schools in York County.
In 1974 the county purchased land from Mariana Howard, a teacher at the original Tabb Elementary School, for the purpose of building a new school.
In 1976 the new Tabb Elementary School opened its doors to serve students from the Tabb and Bethel Manor area. Mr. B.C. Helms was appointed principal and remained so until his retirement in 1993. From 1993 to 2002, the principal was Dr. Phyllis Milne. Mr. Robert Sulzberger has been our principal since then. In 2006 we welcomed a new principal, Mrs. Cheryl Parr.
The staff and administration of Tabb Elementary School join together in welcoming you and invite you and your children to become active members of the school community. Tabb Elementary School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Using our Virgina SOL scores, Tabb Elementary has been fully accredited since 2000.
The school was renovated during the 1994-1995 school year during which time a cafeteria, gymnasium, and six new classrooms were added. The school has 36 classrooms with approximately 600 students and 67 staff members.
The school came into the technology age in a big way in 2003. Every classroom has three student computers and one instructional computer on our local network. These computers have access to the internet, and thus have expanded the educational resources of Tabb.
The combined energies of the school, along with a supportive community, make the school environment pleasant, productive and conducive to learning.
