Course Description
This is a yearlong course in which
students will learn the most important topics of Microsoft Office XP.
Students are first presented with a quick review of the Office Suite,
Windows, and Internet Explorer. Next, students will learn more
intermediate skills for Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint; each
application is covered in four units. Students will learn how to use
Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) to create integrated Office
documents in four units that follow the Excel, Access, Word, and
PowerPoint sections. Students will complete assignments according to
the Competency-Based Education (CBE) task list—Career &
Technical Standards of Learning. This course prepares students to take
four of the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exams (core
level). Students who take this course have the option of signing up for
dual enrollment with Thomas Nelson Community College.

Unit files: Instructor will provide
instructions for obtaining the Unit files.

Internet Explorer 6, and Windows XP will be used.

Instructional Philosophy
Lectures/Demonstrations: The
instructor will serve as a facilitator of learning, providing
demonstration of equipment use, instruction on software techniques,
relevant materials/references, technical support, and a variety of
technologies. Students should plan to take careful notes as books
cannot be taken from the classroom.

Competency Based Education (CBE)
A competency record is kept showing
student progress made during the school year. Objectives will be
introduced at the beginning of each unit. Each student’s
performance level will be recorded on his/her competency sheets.
Students are expected to attain a minimum 80% pass rate.
