1. GENERAL COURSE OUTLINE
The Chemistry
curriculum is divided into 11 units and is aligned with the Virginia Standards
of Learning (SOL). Each unit will
require completion of several class work, laboratory and homework assignments,
1-2 quizzes and a final unit test. A
detailed course outline with assigned textbook reading is provided to each
student.
2. CLASSROOM
RULES
¨Follow all rules outlined in the Rights and
Responsibilities handbook.
¨ Arrive to class on time and be seated in
your assigned seat by the time the tardy bell rings. Students arriving late before
¨Come to class each day and bring all
required materials, including your assignments and agenda. You will not be allowed to go to your locker
once class begins.
¨Be respectful of the teacher and other
students. Do not talk while the teacher
or another student is talking.
¨Do not eat in the classroom.
Water in a clear bottle is the only beverage allowed in the classroom.
¨Obey all laboratory safety rules. Failure to do so will result in a “0” for the
day’s classwork/lab grade.
¨No one will be allowed to leave the classroom during the first
10 minutes or the last 10 minutes of class, during lecture or during tests or
quizzes. Students may leave the classroom
only with the teacher’s permission and a signed agenda pass.
¨Remain seated at the end of class until the bell rings. Do not line up at the classroom door.
3. REQUIRED

NOTE: Textbooks are issued
to each student by number at the beginning of the school year. It is the responsibility of the student to
return the book in comparable condition upon completion of the course. If the textbook is lost, stolen or badly
damaged, the student will be charged a replacement fee ($60.43).

5. MAKE-UP WORK/EXTRA HELP
It
is the student’s responsibility
to get missed assignments from the teacher when returning from an absence
located in the makeup folder located in room.
Students have up to 5 days to make-up missing tests and assignments. Make-up and extra help sessions will be held
on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. New horizon students need to make an appt.
