Arty Layne has been a resident of York County since 1959. A 1971 graduate of York High School, he attended the University of Virginia and took his degree in Psychology and Religious Studies. He taught mathematics for 14 years at Yorktown Intermediate (now "Middle") School where he also coached basketball and football and received "Who's Who" recognition as a classroom teacher. He completed his "Master of Education" degree at the College of William and Mary in 1990 and has served as an assistant principal in the York County School Division since then. He has also served as acting principal at Yorktown Middle School and at the York River Regional School, an alternative student setting, and served last year as Interim Principal at Tabb Middle School. Returning to his role as Assistant Principal, he will support the continuity and continuous growth of Tabb Middle School and its focus on student development and achievement. This, his thirty-second year with the students of York County, promises to be one of challenges and achievement.
