We find that when you put the two, (inquiry-based learning and true technology integration) together there's a synergy created that really boosts students' learning (Brannigan, 2002 as quoted in Foltos 2002)

NCLB legislation (Part D, Section 2402 in the Enhancing Education Through Technology Act of 2001)sets the goal "to improve student academic achievement through the use of technology in elementary schools and secondary schools." An additional goal of this act is "to assist every student in crossing the digital divide by ensuring that every student is technologically literate by the time the student finishes the eighth grade, regardless of the student's race, ethnicity, gender, family income, geographic location, or disability" (Title II 2001 Sec 2402 (b) (2) (A)). As a result teachers are moving toward increasing the literacy of our students.

A method of measuring the technological literacy of our students and complying with the NCLB requirement is to consult the Virginia Technology Standards of Learning at http://www.pen.k12.va.us/VDOE/Superintendent/Sols/compteck12.pdf and use these standards as the basis of integrating technology, where appropriate, into classroom instruction.

Profiles for technology literate students with Performance indicators, curriculum examples and scenarios are available at http://cnets.iste.org/students/s_profiles.html and were created as part of the NETS (National Educational Technology Standards for students) for students by ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education)
