CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Bienvenidos, estudiantes, a la clase de espanol! The following expectations and guidelines will help you to be successful in learning and using the language through listening, speaking, reading and writing. Each of these skills will be used in many activities to comprehend and to interpret the language. However, daily participation in the target language within the classroom and practice at home are required to master these skills and to ensure success. Please read these expectation carefully, and let's have a great year!
Evaluation and Grading
Homework 10% Quizzes 35% Tests 35%

Oral presentations/participation/class work/compositions 20%

Also, written and oral projects will be assigned throughout the year. Students will be given clear guidelines and sufficient time to complete these projects. The weight of these projects will be given at the time that the project is assigned.

 

Homework
Written and/or oral homework is assigned each class as a reinforcement of the material presented in class. A review of homework is part of the daily lesson, and students are responsible for making corrections of their assignments. Homework quizzes will be given during or after each unit, so keep your assignments organized and labeled! Late homework will not be accepted!!
Attendance and Make-up Work
Regular attendance in class is of utmost importance and is directly related to the student's success in class. All make-up work, written and oral, is the responsibility of the student. Students are required to have the phone number of at least two (2) "study buddies" to practice oral assignments and to stay current with the class when absent. Please use your TMS planner for assignments and phone numbers of your classmates. Students must make an appointment with the teacher to make up tests or oral work missed. Extra help is available after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays when scheduled in advance by the student.
Student Conduct
Students are required to follow all rules as stated in the TMS Student Planner. Please note carefully the dress code requirement. Gum, candy, food and drinks are not permitted in the classroom, and disciplinary action will be taken for not adhering to this rule. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a courteous and cooperative manner at all times. Also, students are expected to be on task at all times and to raise their hand before speaking.
Classroom Procedures
  1. Each student is expected to come to class prepared and to be in their seats before the designated time for tardiness. Students will be dismissed by the teacher.
  2. Activities in class are selected to meet the standards of oral and written proficiencies. There is constant interaction between students as well as between students and the teacher.
  3. Group work is used as a vehicle to allow students frequent and creative use of the target language.
  4. Students will be required to speak in Spanish during class and to try to communicate with each other in the language at all times.
  5. Students must bring required materials to class.
Required Materials
  1. A 3-ring binder with 5 dividers and notebook paper to be used solely for Spanish class.
  2. #2 PENCILS ONLY! (Onloy blue or black pens will be used for the final drafts of assigned compositions.
  3. The student textbook and workbook.
  4. Your TMS Planner.
  5. 3 x 5 blank index cards for vocabulary practice.
  6. Book covers are required!
