ENGLISH
The Agenda of
English studies will cover the Sixth Grade SOL’s
Which will
include;

Developing
skills in identifying How to Write a Sentence
·
How to
punctuate the four Kinds of Sentences
·
How to
distinguish the subject and predicate
·
Recognizing
which words form the eight Parts of Speech and how to use them correctly in
writing
·
Conjugate regular
and irregular verbs
·
Developing
Composing skills in writing a Narrative, a Research paper, an Expository, and
Poetry
·
Identify and
use Library research skills
·
Diagram
sentences
Note: Students will
have homework three to four times a week to reinforce the daily lessons.

SCIENCE
Students will
receive Study Guides a week prior for, each test administered and two weeks prior for
Quarter and Semester tests. The Mid-term
and Final Exams (semester tests) Study Guides will have a place on the last page
for the parent’s signature and is to be returned to me. The signed note tells us that you are aware
of the upcoming exams and are taking note to remind your child to study each
night in preparation.
Projects are to be completed in class. There are exceptions when a student feels
that they need more time to complete their project and therefore will be
permitted to take it home.
Homework assignments will be selected labs and
activity pages from the student’s workbook.
I have prepared
power-point study guides that will be e-mailed to parents to further enrich the
student’s study in preparation for certain tests.
Sixth Grade Science SOL’s
to be covered:

6.1 Investigation – Students will be
learning the steps of the Scientific Method and Experimental Design procedures
for investigating research problems and Lab Safety Rules
·
6.2 Force, Motion, and Energy – Students
will identify types of potential and Kinetic energy; the role of the sun;
energy transformations; renewable and non renewable resources
·
6.3 Force, Motion, and Energy – Students
will investigate and understand solar energy as a driving force within the
atmosphere, the hydrosphere, and the Earth’s surface
·
6.4, 6.5 Matter
– Students will explore the atomic structure; identify the chemical structure
of elements as found in the Periodic Table of Elements; chemical formulas;
recognize water as the universal solvent; the properties of water; the states
of water; the uses of water
·
6.6 Matter – Students will investigate and
understand the properties of air and the atmosphere of Weather
·
6.7 Living Systems – Students will investigate
and understand the natural processes and human interaction that affect the
watershed system
·
6.8 Earth/Space – Students will investigate and
understand the organization of the solar system and the relationship among the
various bodies that comprise it
·
6.9 Resources – The student will investigate and
understand public policy decisions relating to the environment (this standard
will be introduce along with standard 6.2)
General
Instructional Procedures:
·
Each Monday
or beginning of the week, students will be required to write in their Agendas
the week’s lessons for each day of that week
·
There will be
a Lab or demonstration relevant to the week’s lesson at least once a week
·
There will be
a quiz every two weeks and a test at the end of a chapter of study or unit.
·
There is
always a day of review before a quiz or test.
