What is NJROTC?

NJROTC is a branch of the United States Navy.
It is a progaram designed to introduce high school students into military life, with drill, uniforms, history, etc.
NJROTC stands for: Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps.
There is a promotion system in place identical to the Navy's, with enlisted ranks, chiefs, and officers. Officers and chiefs are given leadership opportunities through jobs such as Administration, Public Affairs, Supply, Commanding Officer, and Executive Officer.

NJROTC Activities

NJROTC participates in many activities before, during, and after school that give you a plethora of chances to participate. Not only do these teach discipline, and give a cadet pride in what they have accomplished, these extracurriculars pad your college application.

Mini-Boot Camp

Miniature Boot Camp is held once or twice a year, generally on Fort Eustis Army Base. Generally this is a four-day course that tests the wit and determination of the cadets. Here boots will have instruction and discipline taught to them through various activities. Everywhere you go the boots march in formation, getting ready is a race against time, and meals are silent. There are daily uniform and bunk inspections, and three mandantory meals. At Fort Eustis boots will train on the Leadership Reaction Course in small teams to develop leadership, as well as the Obstacle Course for strength and endurance.

As a cadet becomes senior in rank and grade, they can opt to be part of staff at Boot-Camp. Staff are in charge of leading the boots, supply, admin., etc.

Freshman Drill

A chance for all Freshmen to show their stuff. This is a platoon of the best freshmen marchers that go to competitions and compete against other schools.

Unarmed Exhibition

Unarmed Exhibition is for upperclassmen who have excelled in marching, and create routines to perform at competitions.

Armed Exhibition

Armed exhibition is drill with rifles. Each rifle weighs about 12 pounds, and one must be able to march, spin, and throw them for quite a while. During armed exhibition rifles are spun, kicked, thrown, held, and twisted in a platoon to create a visually astounding performance. Armed Ex. also performs at drill competitions.

Orienteering

Do you know how to read maps, travel through difficult terrian, and cope with others, all while traveling as fast as possible? If so, you belong on the orienteering team. If you can't but want to know how, then the team will teach you so come out and practice anyway. Orienteering competes with other schools to navigate the woods to predetermined checkpoints, to be first across the finish line.

Marksmanship Training

Marksmanship Training is the art of shooting rifles. A safety course is taught in the beginning of the year to ensure everyone is safe, then the real fun starts when you shoot at targets during your class period! Even though everyone who wants to can shoot, the top six or so shooters make up the team and their scores are sent in to postal competitions.

Academics

Academics covers everything in the history of the US Navy. All you have to do is take the test. So you might as well try!

Athletics

Athletics are an integral part of NJROTC. Every Friday there is Physical Training, and the fastest, strongest athletes compete in athletic meets against other schools from all over our region.

Field Trips!

NJROTC participates in quite a few field trips, some examples are: High School NJROTC Home Page
