PTA
“The success of your PTA isn’t measured by the amount of people that
show up for the meeting, it’s measured by the amount of people that show
up when it counts.”
Yorktown Middle PTA works closely with
the school to enhance our children’s overall experience. Being involved
with the PTA is a great way to stay connected with your child and their
environment during these adolescent years.
The 2007/2008 Board is looking forward to working with various
volunteers, and utilizing input from all the parents, to ensure a
successful year for the students and staff.
The easiest way to support your PTA is to join! Membership is $5 per
person and anyone can join: parents, grandparents, teachers, neighbors,
community members – anyone with a vested interest in your child’s
education. Membership envelopes are available in the School Office and on the PTA bulletin board.
The next level of support would be to volunteer for a committee. We
have many different types of volunteer positions. If you do not have a
lot of time, you many consider volunteering for hospitality, and bake
muffins or cookies when needed. We also have evening opportunities,
such as dance chaperone or concession worker. We assist with the school
fundraiser (magazine drive), we sponsor a Reflections Program (contest
in the arts), and this year we will be sponsoring a homecoming dinner.
Some of our activities to volunteer for include:
Dance Chaperones: The Chaperone committee is responsible for providing dance chaperons for the monthly school dances and on occasion acts as game attendants in the event the dance includes activities. Chair- Beth Heaton
Dance Concessions: Chair - Teri Gordon
Hospitality: This committee provides "goodies" for the teachers, usually monthly, as well as back to school lunches and coordinates Teacher Appreciation Week and other ways of thanking the wonderful staff at YMS. Chair - Kim Lenz
Core Challenge: Will kick off Tuesday, April 22, 2008. YMS and the PTA are working together to raise funds to support the History Department and the PTA. Chairs - Rhonda Gianturco & Lori Tribble.
8th Grade Celebration: Saturday, June 7, 2008. Theme: "A Night on Broadway." We need volunteers to help, plan, decorate, sell tickets, chaperon and do clean up! Please contact the Chair, Susan Carter or any member of the PTA board to find out how you can help making this night a huge success.
Please take time to review the complete list of committees to find
the right fit for you!
