YMS Citizens of the Month

Each month, Yorktown Middle School will be recognizing students who show exemplary behavior or outstanding character for that month. Congratulations to the following students who were chosen as Citizen of the Month for September: Taylor Amos, Gerald Bonds, Katelyn Brinkley, Dustin Crockett, Patrick Glaze, Yusera Ishrat, Alec Jackson, Jack Johanek, Hannah O'Connell, Taylor Speights, Moira Thomson, Jake Verry, Alex Whitaker.


Crazy Hats for the American Heart Association

Grafton Middle School’s Builders Club sponsored a Hat Day to raise money for the American Heart Association. Teachers selected one student per class to be judged for the best hat. $118.00 was collected for the American Heart Association.


Plenty of Pumpkins

It is a long-held tradition at Dare Elementary School for the parents and students to enter their creations in the Annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest. This years' crop of pumpkins was outstanding with lots of spooky, funny, and creative pumpkins! All pumpkins were donated to the ARC group home to be enjoyed on Halloween.

Thank You Colonial Kitchens

Colonial Kitchens and Custom Cabinets generously donated beautiful new countertops to the Yorktown Elementary MST Magnet School library. The old countertops were bright neon yellow so the beige color contributes to the appearance of the newly renovated and freshly painted child friendly library. Mrs. Concannon’s kindergarten students made a hand print sign, thanking the men for their hard work and gracious donation.


YMS Pledges to be Drug-free and Stay in the Green Zone

Yorktown Middle School (YMS) is celebrating Red Ribbon Week, October 22-26. Red Ribbon Week began in 1988 and is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country. The US Drug Enforcement Agency estimates that 80 million people currently participate in this program. Yorktown Middle School students are proud to be part of this campaign and pledge to be drug free. Students pledge to honor YMS's tradition of a drug-free school and school body by signing a "Drug-Free" banner in the main hallway.


TMS Sixth Graders Engage in Living History

Presenters from the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation brought history to life for Tabb Middle School sixth-graders. Students engaged in hands-on learning experiences about life in colonial times.


Queens Lake Middle School Craft Show

On Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Queens Lake Middle School will hold the 6th Annual PTA sponsored Arts & Crafts Bazaar. Come out and enjoy 40+ talented artisans and vendors. Enjoy a delicious lunch & concessions while relaxing to live music. If you are bringing children with you, there will be a Children's arts & crafts room for them to enjoy. There will also be a silent auction. Come out and support the Queens Lake Middle School Arts & Crafts Bazaar at 124 West Queens Drive in Williamsburg.


Yorktown Elementary Family Fall Festival

The Yorktown Elementary School Annual Family Fall Festival, held Friday, October 12, 2012 from 6 - 8 p.m., proved to be an evening full of fun with crafts, games, face painting, concessions, pumpkin roll, ring toss, corn hole and more.


Ginger L. Clarke visits Magruder Elementary School

On Friday, October 12, 2012, Mrs. Ginger L. Clarke visited the second and third graders of Magruder Elementary School to discuss her popular books and love of writing. Mrs. Clarke's books have sold a combined total of more than two million copies worldwide. Her books Freak Out! and Gross Out! were on Publisher's Weekly's 2006 and 2007 lists of top hundred best-selling children's books. The students enjoyed listening to Mrs. Clarke's presentation and how her love for writing began in the third grade. Hopefully the students of Magruder Elementary School will be inspired to pursue their love of writing as well!
