Real-World Writing with Real ResultsPosted on: Thursday, February 23, 2012For a persuasive writing lesson, students in Abbey Padua’s english class at Grafton Middle School (GMS) chose from many different real-world writing topics. Maegan Junkins and Alexys Strachan chose to write to Grafton Animal Hospital located locally in Yorktown, Virginia recommending each other for the position of veterinarian. They were delighted when they received a personal reply from Melanie Storrs, the office manager at Grafton Animal Hospital. These students learned more than just the purpose of persuasion; they learned that their words are potent and their writing is powerful. |

Middle School County Wide Dance/Activity NightPosted on: Thursday, February 23, 2012The middle school County Wide Dance/Activity Night will be held Friday, March 2 from 7 – 9:30 p.m. at the Grafton School Complex. Admission is $7 for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Students should bring their student ID for Express Entry. There will be a live DJ, games, prizes, rides and food. This event is sponsored by the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office. |

The top five spellers were Kei'Liah Taylor, Daniel Charlier, Aimee Nazario-Ovalle, Jonah Trani and Jimmy McKenzie. These students will advance to the Tidewater Regional Bee in March. Tabb Middle School's (TMS) Builders Club is working hard to raise money to build a school in Sierra Leon. Partnering up with the organization, Free the Children, TMS club members sponsored a Valentine's Dance to spread the word of reaching out to others and to add to their goal of $8400. Just think, a short time ago, the children of Sierra Leon made up a children's army in a country riddled with civil war. Soon and with hard work from the Builders Club, they and their village will have the gift of education. Brick by brick, this school will become a reality! |
