Community QuiltPosted on: Friday, February 17, 2012Elizabeth Beach's first grade class at Seaford Elementary School (SES) worked with community volunteer, Julie Jensen, to create a class quilt. The quilt represents a cross curriculum review. The students were presented with quilts that dated back 100 years. The students were able to tie in their social studies lesson on past, present and future. The students discussed how quilts were made in the past and how quilts can be handed down through generations. The class had just completed reading a story about family traditions in which making quilts was one of the traditions. Julie helped the students design quilt squares to represent themselves and their classroom and will piece the quilt together to present to the class. |
100th Day of SchoolPosted on: Friday, February 17, 2012Donna Manicone's first grade class at Seaford Elementary School (SES) celebrated the 100th Day of School on February 13. The students celebrated the 100th day by turning "100 days of school" into "100 days of cool"! |

Egypt ReconstructedPosted on: Friday, February 17, 2012Yorktown Elementary School (YMS) students in Jennifer Smith’s class constructed a 3-D map of Egypt to learn about the ancient land. They used construction paper to make replicas of the landforms, crops, architecture and animals found there. |
Oyster Restoration at Grafton MiddlePosted on: Friday, February 17, 2012Grafton Middle School (GMS) students Kessler McBee, Madison Baskin, Abigail Wilsey, Olivia Seufzer, Camryn Young and Kristin D'Imperio went beach combing at a recent meeting of the Oyster Restoration Club. Their finds included, sea stars, coral, mermaid purses, shark teeth, welk egg casings and shells of all sorts. Club members then researched, identified and classified their findings. The club is sponsored by 6th grade science teacher, Terry Zeytoonian and math teacher, Deborah Honeycutt. |

Topics included key people, battles and events they were studying in history class. They presented their research in the form of a poster. |
Grafton Middle Builds BridgesPosted on: Friday, February 17, 2012During Technology Systems class at Grafton Middle School (GMS), students Pierce Keesee and Charles Hoepfner, designed and built a bridge out of balsa wood. The students then tested the amount of force the bridge can withstand using a structure tester and calibrating the pounds of pressure using the computer. These students' bridge was able to withstand the most pressure out of the other bridges from the class. |
Help...My Child is Almost a Senior! Information on the following topics will be available: college admissions, financial aid, scholarships, community college and academies.
