Oyster Restoration at Grafton MiddlePosted on: Friday, February 17, 2012Grafton Middle School (GMS) students Kessler McBee, Madison Baskin, Abigail Wilsey, Olivia Seufzer, Camryn Young and Kristin D'Imperio went beach combing at a recent meeting of the Oyster Restoration Club. Their finds included, sea stars, coral, mermaid purses, shark teeth, welk egg casings and shells of all sorts. Club members then researched, identified and classified their findings. The club is sponsored by 6th grade science teacher, Terry Zeytoonian and math teacher, Deborah Honeycutt. |

Topics included key people, battles and events they were studying in history class. They presented their research in the form of a poster. |
Grafton Middle Builds BridgesPosted on: Friday, February 17, 2012During Technology Systems class at Grafton Middle School (GMS), students Pierce Keesee and Charles Hoepfner, designed and built a bridge out of balsa wood. The students then tested the amount of force the bridge can withstand using a structure tester and calibrating the pounds of pressure using the computer. These students' bridge was able to withstand the most pressure out of the other bridges from the class. |

Diversity is...? Reflections Winners AnnouncedPosted on: Thursday, February 09, 2012A special thank you to all of the participants in the 2011-2012 Reflections contest this year. This competition's theme was "Diversity is." The annual contest is sponsored by the York County Council PTA/PTSA in conjunction with the National PTA. Students throughout the York County School Division submitted original entries at their school level in the following categories: Dance Choreography, Film/Video Production, Musical Composition, Literature, Photography and Visual Arts. Each category is broken down into four divisions of competition - Primary (Preschool - grade 2), Intermediate (Grades 3-5), Middle (Grades 6-8) and Senior (grades 9-12). All entries are judged on artistic merit, creativity, mastery of the medium and interpretation of the theme. |

Seaford Elementary First Graders Take A Bite Out of LearningPosted on: Thursday, February 09, 2012Wrapping up their unit on maps, first graders at Seaford Elementary School make an edible project. Using what they learned about cardinal directions, map keys and symbols, students created an edible map. When the map made of tortillas, peanut butter, chocolate and other edible items were complete - the students were able to taste them! |
