YCSD Clerk and Deputy Clerk of Board Take OathPosted on: Thursday, February 09, 2012York County School Division staff gathered in the lobby of the School Board Office on February 3, 2012 in support of their fellow colleagues. Kristen Nelson, Deputy Clerk of York County-Poquoson Circuit Court, administered the oath of office to Sandra Ford, Clerk of the Board, and Carl L. James, Ed.D., Deputy Clerk of the Board. The Clerk and Deputy Clerk were appointed for a one year term at the School Board Annual Organizational Meeting in January. Ms. Ford holds the position of Secretary to the Superintendent and Dr. James serves as the Chief Operations Officer for York County School Division. |
Pancake BreakfastPosted on: Thursday, February 09, 2012Come out and support the Yorktown Middle School (YMS) Choral department with all you can eat pancakes! The YMS Choral Connection Booster Club is sponsoring a pancake breakfast on Saturday, March 17 in the YMS Cafeteria from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Cost is $5 for all you can eat pancakes, two years of age and older. Children 2 and under are free. All proceeds benefit students of the YMS choral department. |
Yorktown Middle Talent ShowPosted on: Monday, February 06, 2012The Yorktown Middle School (YMS) talent show will be held this Thursday, February 9, at 7 p.m. in the YMS Auditorium. Cost to attend is $5 per person with proceeds benefitting the YMS Choral Connection Booster Club. The Choral Connect will be sponsor student chorus members for their spring competition. Grafton Middle: "NOT AT OUR SCHOOL"Posted on: Friday, February 03, 2012Roman Alis' Writers Roundtable students are getting ready for their production illustrating repercussions of cyber-bullying at Grafton Middle School (GMS). Students wrote, cast and directed the production to boost awareness of cyber-bullying amongst their peers. Directors and writers of the final scripts included Mandy Riffe, Rachel Rhymer and Victoria Sumrell. |
Grafton Middle School Celebrates Black HistoryPosted on: Friday, February 03, 2012Seventh grade students at Grafton Middle School (GMS) honored Martin Luther King Jr. in Jill Barnes' English class. Students utilized “Bring Your Own Technology” (BYOT) to summarize and draw visual representations of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech. |
Students Have a "Cool" Time at the Snowman Party at Magruder Elementary!Posted on: Friday, February 03, 2012Kindergarten through second grade students at Magruder Elementary School (MES) met after school to do fun reading activities centered around snowmen. They made a snowman luminary, played snowman games, read snowman books and made a snowman bagel sandwich for a snack. Everyone had a "cool" time at the Snowman Party at MES. |
Celebrate More Birthdays!Posted on: Friday, February 03, 2012During the month of February Queens Lake Middle School (QLMS) will be selling cupcakes after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A cupcake cart will visit each after school activity. Cupcakes will be sold for $1.00 to benefit the American Cancer Society. "A World with less cancer is a World with more birthdays." |

Yorktown Women's Club Art CompetitionPosted on: Friday, February 03, 2012The following students were chosen to represent Queens Lake Middle School (QLMS) in the annual Yorktown Women's Club Art Competition: Lucy Smith, Caitlyn Shafer, Ashley Cordner and Aimee Nazario-Ovalle. They will be competing against other York County School Division artists. Winning this local competition can lead to wins at regional and state competitions. |
