New Tactical Simulation Club at Tabb High

There are over 50 different clubs and organizations sponsored for student participation at Tabb High School (THS). New this year to THS is the WWII Tactical Simulation Club. Sponsored by Mark Pingley, the club meets every Thursday after school in room 121. All interested students are invited to participate and stretch their minds around the events surrounding WWII and other tactical conflicts.

More Help for Haiti

In an effort to provide comfort for the children of earthquake ravaged Haiti, the Tabb High School Key Club sponsored a stuffed animal drive. The club collected almost 400 stuffed animals to send. Energizing the stuffed animal drive was a friendly competition between classes to see which could collect the most stuffed toys. The seventh period English class taught by Elizabeth Milne won.

Antonia Fox, Principal of York High School was awarded the Virginia Student Council administrator of the year at the 84th annual Virginia School Counselor Association (VSCA) convention in Richmond.

Blinky the Lightbulb recently visited Seaford Elementary School to encourage participation in Think-A-Thon, the school's spring fund raising activity. Students obtained pledges from community members in anticipation of taking a special test at school. Pledges were collected based on the number of test questions they answered correctly.


State SCA President

Emily Wiggans, a junior at York High School (YHS) was elected to the post of president of the State Student Council Association. Emily ran a campaign entitled "Oh, the Places Emily Will Go!" YHS and SCA sponsor, Amy Holtschneider are proud of Emily and excited by this opportunity.


IPOP Accepting Applications

York County School Division (YCSD) is accepting applications for the Integrated Preschool Outreach Program (IPOP) for the 2010 academic year. IPOP is a language-based preschool environment. The program is designed to serve students who are typically developing and those with special needs. The curriculum places emphasis on school readiness and socialization skills. Applications and information are available at yorkcountyschools.org or they can be picked up in the main office of any YCSD elementary school. Application deadline is April 1, 2010. “Estuaries to Oceans” Field Trip

Master gardeners from Virginia Cooperative Extension of York County (VCE-York County) will be hosting an outdoor hands-on "Estuaries to Oceans" field trip on March 29 for the entire fifth grade at Seaford Elementary School (SES). This is the third time VCE-York County has offered this science-based field trip to a York County School. The field trip takes place across three properties including and adjacent to SES. Student classes are split up and each group follows a different schedule consisting of the same six activities. Each activity is hosted by two to four educators and/or staffers, and the school provides parent chaperons who rotate with each group. At each station students do the featured activity and answer questions in their field trip journals.


Shamrocks for Tabb Tigers

Tabb High School DECA supported the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Shamrock sale and championed the "Send Chris to Camp" campaign by raising over $200 during the lunch block sales of shamrocks. Students and faculty supported the sale and had their names placed on shamrocks pasted along the media center front windows. To encourage participation in the event, a competition was held between the classes; the senior class purchased the most shamrocks.
