YCSD Make-Up Day SurveyPosted on: Tuesday, October 16, 2018As you know, YCSD students have missed five days of learning this school year due to Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael. The division has extended one school day (Dec. 19) to address some of this lost instructional time and is now reviewing additional make-up options. We would like your input before the superintendent makes further adjustments to the 2018-19 school calendar. Division leaders have identified three possible options to schedule a full school day and provide students with important academic support during the first semester – Monday, Nov. 12, Wednesday, Nov. 21, or Thursday, December 20. Please complete a brief online survey by 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18., to share your preference as to which day the division should use as a make-up day. Makeup plans will be announced by phone, email, and all social media platforms. A revised calendar will also be posted on the school division website and all school websites. |

BMES Teacher Makes Personal ConnectionPosted on: Tuesday, October 02, 2018As just about everyone at Bethel Manor Elementary School knows, Katherine Burgoyne is not just a fifth grade teacher – she’s also a Pittsburgh Steelers superfan. So what happens when one of her students - Kingston Samuels - happens to be a Baltimore Ravens fan? You find a way to engage students - Ms. Burgoyne promised Kingston she would dye her hair purple if the Ravens beat the Steelers. True to her word, Ms. Burgoyne rocked purple hair and was a good sport. She is an amazing example at making student connections and fostering those relationships. |

2018-19 Calendar AdjustmentPosted on: Wednesday, September 26, 2018The York County School Division has made an adjustment to the 2018-19 school calendar to address the school closings due to the mandatory evacuation order for Hurricane Florence. Wednesday, December 19, will be extended from an early release day to a full school day. A portion of the division’s banked time will also be used to offset the missed days. If the division experiences additional school closings, as has happened during winter months in recent years, additional schedule adjustments may be made using identified early release days, teacher workdays and student holidays. |

Elementary Recess ReviewPosted on: Thursday, August 16, 2018The York County School Division is in the process of reviewing options for extending recess time during the elementary school day. The division’s current expectation is that grades K-5 provide a minimum of 20 minutes of daily recess.
