Demanest, Jr., Assistant Director, Cyber Division, FBI. |

Jill Barnes’ blog post shares insight regarding the use of Web 2.0 tools such as Kidblog and the importance of authentic audiences for students’ writing. Chelsei Fox’s blog post explores the struggle between requiring versus inspiring the integration of instructional technology in classrooms. Blogging to share such powerful ideas is an excellent example of teacher leadership and both Jill and Chelsei represent the many strong teacher leaders in the York County School Division. |
SES Holds Opening Ceremony for the Winter OlympicsPosted on: Friday, February 21, 2014Seaford Elementary School (SES) is bringing Sochi to life for students during the 2014 Winter Olympics. Staff held their own opening ceremony and assigned each classroom at Seaford Elementary School a participating country. The students then began tracking medals won by “their” country while researching information about the country. Classes will select a small group of students to present information at the school’s Olympic Country Expo on Thursday, February 27. |
YCSD Student Art Contest WinnersPosted on: Friday, February 21, 2014The York County School Division (YCSD) honored the Winter 2014 Student Art Contest Winners during a reception in February. The contest is open to all YCSD students with winners being selected at the elementary and secondary levels. Emily Anania, a student at Yorktown Elementary School, was awarded the elementary prize for her artwork, while Grafton High School student Christina Tyndall earned the secondary prize. Both pieces of artwork join a permanent display of student artwork at the School Board Office. |
YCSD Students Place in Yorktown Women's Art ContestPosted on: Friday, February 21, 2014The York County School Division (YCSD) is pleased to announce the winners in the Yorktown Woman’s Club Art Competition. Artwork by Best in Show and First Place winners will be entered in the Tidewater District Women’s Clubs Art Show in March 2014. Winning artwork of the district show will be forwarded for competition at the Virginia Federation of Women’s Clubs Art Show in April 2014. Congratulations to all students who participated in the competition and a sincere thank you to the art teachers who encouraged students to share their artistic talents. |
All-Virginia Choir Winners for Tabb HighPosted on: Friday, February 14, 2014Students from across Virginia competed for All-Virginia Choir on Saturday, February 8. Tabb High School's (THS) Choral Department led by Choral Director, Mr. Gordon Parr, placed five students and two alternates in the prestigious state level choir. Representing THS in the All-Virginia Choir are Cullen Bowie, Sergio Constantiono, Paige Hartian, Aaron Lewis, and Hope Sears. Michael Dodd and Wendi Williams were named alternates. |
THS Key Club Sponsors Sweet SuccessPosted on: Friday, February 14, 2014The Tabb High School (THS) Key Club, sponsored by Mr. Michael Martinez, organized a cookie contest designed to collect homemade cookies for our troops. Classes were encouraged to bring in as many cookies as possible in support of the Airman-Soldier Cookie Drive. Mr. Chris Elliot's French class won the contest by providing 37 dozen cookies for the cause. Cookies were collected by the Key Club and presented to the LAFB Ladies Club, the sponsors of the cookie drive, to be forwarded to the troops. |
Winter Wonderland Arrives at Bethel ManorPosted on: Friday, February 14, 2014The Bethel Manor Elementary School (BMES) PTA brought a Winter Wonderland to their students on Friday, February 7. Students formally invited their parents to attend an evening of music, dancing, refreshments and fun. BMES families created warm memories and lifelong friendships in the midst of another cold night! Youth Career ExpoPosted on: Friday, February 14, 2014Tabb High School (THS) Career and Technical Education students attended the Regional Youth Career Expo held on Monday, February 10, at the Hampton Convention Center. Students participated in mock interviews, attended workshops and visited the event floor to meet perspective employers and investigate career and educational opportunities. Students also had the chance to take a "test drive" on the USCG exhibit and try on firefighting gear. |
