High School Student Art ShowPosted on: Friday, January 10, 2014It has become an annual tradition for Bruton High School (BHS) art students to enter their artwork in a juried competition hosted by This Century Art Gallery. This year, 20 students entered their artwork into the competition. The art is in display at This Century Art Gallery, located on North Boundary Street in Williamsburg, now through February 7. |
YCSD Elementary Schools HonoredPosted on: Friday, January 10, 2014The Virginia Board of Education recently recognized Bethel Manor, Dare, Magruder, and Waller Mill elementary school as Title I Distinguished Schools. The awards are based on student achievement on state assessments during the 2011-2012 and 2010-2011 school years. Title I Distinguished schools are recognized for meeting all state and federal accountability requirements and achieving average reading and mathematics SOL scores at the 60th percentile or higher. Congratulations to these schools for earning this recognition. |

The sing-a-long features vocal and instrumental selections performed by all 500 SES students. Mrs. Eacho's second grade class performed as penguins from the South Pole. |
CIS Students Prepared for the WorkforcePosted on: Friday, December 20, 2013Tabb High School (THS) has embraced the Microsoft Office Specialist Program and provides its students the opportunity to take 2013 Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Exams through its Computer Information System (CIS) course. Students passing the exam are certified in Microsoft Office programs making them more valuable to prospective employers. The CIS students passed the Excel 2013 Exam and can now further differentiate themselves in today's competitive job market and on college applications. They will also have the opportunity to go on to take additional MOS 2013 exams. |
Steampunk Artist David Lee Visits Grafton Middle SchoolPosted on: Friday, December 20, 2013Gloucester artist David Lee recently visited Grafton Middle School (GMS) as part of a transformative learning activity for art and technology students. Mr. Lee presented the history of the Steampunk movement to seventh and eighth grade art students who are currently working on their own Steampunk pen & ink projects. Lee displayed his Steampunk car, which he designed and built, as well as many other futuristic Victorian contraptions. |
Seaford Elementary's Chorus Performs for Their CommunityPosted on: Friday, December 20, 2013The Seaford Elementary School (SES) fifth grade chorus performed their annual holiday concert at the York Senior Center on December 3, and the Seaford Women's Club on December 12. The chorus is under the direction of Mrs. Judy Mitchell. They performed holiday selections that included “My Favorite Things”, “Winter Wonderland”, “Silver Bells”, and many other holiday favorites. |
How Many York County Families Can a Family of Bulldogs Feed?Posted on: Friday, December 20, 2013Fourth grade students at Seaford Elementary School (SES) took the opportunity to combine their community outreach project with mathematics. Students graphed each grade level's contribution to the food bank. Then they calculated how many families could be fed and determined that 1,125 food items collected at SES would feed 65 families. Students delivered the donations to the York County Food Bank at St. Luke's Methodist Church. |
