Students at York River Academy (YRA) competed with 120 teams across Hampton Roads and won three awards at the 25th anniversary of the Great Computer Challenge sponsored by WHRO, Old Dominion University (ODU) and The Consortium for Interactive Instruction. On the campus of ODU, teams competed in categories such as graphic arts, desktop publishing, computer programming, digital music composition and many more. Four teachers at YRA sponsored five teams with a total of sixteen students attending the event. YRA students placed third in desktop presentations and first in Web design. The Academy also won the Grace Little Technology Enthusiasm Award which is given to the school with the greatest percentage of its students participating in the event.
