“Estuaries to Oceans” Field Trip

Posted On: Thursday, March 25, 2010
Master gardeners from Virginia Cooperative Extension of York County (VCE-York County) will be hosting an outdoor hands-on "Estuaries to Oceans" field trip on March 29 for the entire fifth grade at Seaford Elementary School (SES). This is the third time VCE-York County has offered this science-based field trip to a York County School. The field trip takes place across three properties including and adjacent to SES. Student classes are split up and each group follows a different schedule consisting of the same six activities. Activities include: Guided walk, Geology, Phytoplankton Races, Aquatic Macro invertebrates, water quality testing, and observational buoys. Each activity is hosted by two to four educators and/or staffers, and the school provides parent chaperons who rotate with each group. At each station students do the featured activity and answer questions in their field trip journals. Jim Orband, Senior Extension Agent, VCE-York County will assist the group throughout the day.
