The York Foundation for Public Education, Inc. (YFPE) and the Peninsula Community Foundation of Virginia are proud to announce that Raymundo “Rico” Gomez of York High School has been selected as the recipient of the second annual Michael Tylavsky, Jr. Memorial Scholarship. The Scholarship is named for Michael J. Tylavsky, Jr., former Principal of Tabb High School to honor his reputation as a highly respected and admired educator and school administrator in York County. "Mr. T." retired after 26 years of dedicated service. In keeping with Mike Tylavsky's character, ideals, and wishes, this memorial scholarship provides assistance to a student from a working family who is pursuing a career in health and technology. The scholarship award in the amount of $500 will be paid to Thomas Nelson Community College, where Rico will begin his college education in liberal arts studies with aspirations of a career in respiratory therapy, and hopes to transfer to William & Mary after achieving his Associate’s Degree. Citizens and businesses are encouraged to make a donation to the Michael Tylavsky Scholarship Fund payable to the Peninsula Community Foundation with “Tylavsky Scholarship” noted in the memo line. Checks should be mailed to: The Peninsula Community Foundation, 11742 Jefferson Avenue, Suite 350, Newport News, VA 23606 or call Peggy Myatt, YFPE Executive Director, at 898-0451 for more details.
