York County School Division Receives Risk Management Award

Posted On: Thursday, May 27, 2010
Greg Dickie, Director of Member Services of VML Insurance Programs presented the 2010 Risk Management Performance Award to York County School Division (YCSD). VML Insurance Programs is a non-profit, group self insurance program of local governments in the Commonwealth of Virginia and has provided coverage for auto, property and liability for the YCSD. A member since 2001, the division has an overall 35% loss ratio. This compares favorably with the program average of 45%. Dennis Jarrett, Linda McIntyre, James Lash and Frank Pitchford along with the safety committee have worked diligently to put standard operating procedures in place to ensure a safe environment for students, school employees and citizens. The successful completion of this process earned the school division a 5% reduction on the premium for 2010/11. Recently YCSD participated in a VML Insurance special program on driver training designed to enhance the training already in place. This is just one example of how YCSD seeks to improve their overall risk management program. The proactive approach taken toward loss prevention and good claim management practices has earned this recognition. The support of the Superintendent and the School Board is evident in making York County Schools a safe and productive place for learning.
