Safety Message from the SuperintendentPosted On: Wednesday, May 14, 2025 |
As we enter the final 20 days of the school year, I want to address the critical topic of school safety. In recent weeks, several schools along with the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office have responded to serious concerns of students bringing prohibited items to school, including vapes, a toy gun, and most seriously, an unloaded handgun. I want to be very clear: making threatening statements or bringing any kind of weapon - real or toy - onto school grounds is unacceptable. These actions are disruptive, dangerous, and are taken very seriously. School safety is a shared responsibility that starts at home. I'm asking every family to talk with your children about the importance of keeping our schools safe. Please remind them that what they say, do, or bring to school has real consequences. If your child has access to items that are prohibited at school, such as a vape, BB guns or similar objects, it is critical you take steps to ensure they do not bring these items to school, even accidentally. Please check their bags and backpacks regularly and talk about expectations. Let's work together to finish this school year strong and safe. Thank you for your support and being our partners in keeping our students and schools secure. Sincerely, Victor Shandor, Ed.D. |
