Gifted Education Expert Coming to York County

On Friday, March 4, the York County School Division's (YCSD) Gifted Education Advisory Committee is hosting Dr. Mary Slade as she presents two staff development sessions for teachers and conducts a parent workshop that evening.
 
Dr. Slade has taught elementary, middle and high school students. At the college level, she previously taught at both the University of Virginia (UVA) and at the College of William and Mary (W&M), and she is currently an assistant professor at James Madison University (JMU). She has served on the Board of Directors of the National Association for Gifted Children and she won an "early leader" award from that group several years ago. She has published more than 40 articles, book chapters and reports. She has also authored three books.
 
From 12:30 to 2:00, she will work with 6th and 7th grade teachers to focus on "Developing and Implementing Advanced Studies for Gifted Learners." From 2:30 to 4:00, she will conduct a second session for kindergarten through 5th grade teachers titled "Differentiating Reading and Math for Cluster Groups of Advanced Learners." Later in the evening, from 6:30 to 7:30, she will present "Nurturing and Supporting the Education of Your Gifted Child," a workshop for parents.
