Through a partnership with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), 11th grade International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme Biology students at York High School are receiving instruction from Heidi Cotton, a VIMS scientist. The program, funded by the National Science Foundation, works to bring science to the community and what better way to do this than with students. Most recently, students began their long-term lab to study the biodiversity, water quality and sediment cores at Beaverdam Creek.
