Read Across America Rocks at Yorktown ElementaryPosted On: Thursday, March 10, 2011 |
Yorktown Elementary School (YES) celebrated Read Across America Day in Seussical style. Students dressed in red and white and teachers donned their Seuss costumes and hats. The entire school participated in a read-in that stretched through every hallway in the school. The day culminated with a visit from the Cat in the Hat who greeted students and staff.
National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America is an annual program that calls for every child to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. The program's purpose is to motivate students to read and enjoy literature. YES will celebrate Read Across America throughout the month of March with guest readers, special activities and Dr. Seuss themed contests.
