Innovative Instructional Grant Projects Selected for Funding by the YFPE, Inc.Posted On: Thursday, March 10, 2011 |
Eight grants representing thirteen teachers from seven York County School Division (YCSD) schools received full or partial funding for instructional projects submitted to The York Foundation for Public Education, Inc. (YFPE, Inc.) 2010-2011 Second Semester Innovative Instructional Grant Competition. Teachers were awarded a total of $3,260.00 for projects above and beyond their regular classroom work. Checks were awarded on March 2nd via the YFPE, Inc. prize patrol. Projects selected are designed to motivate, enrich and/or enhance student learning.
The Foundation received twenty-two grant proposals with a total of more than $15,288.84 from forty-five teachers throughout YCSD. Of those, eight proposals were selected for awards amounting to $3,260.00. A panel of judges, all trustees of the YFPE, Inc., selected the winners. The selection process is "blind," meaning that names of teachers and schools are withheld from panel participants. An amount exceeding $80,002.00 has been awarded to the YCSD teachers since fall 2000 through this program. Each grant recipient was required to prepare a written report and provide a financial accounting on their project for review by YFPE, Inc. Board of Trustees at the end of the semester.
In accordance with our YFPE, Inc. Fund for Excellence campaign, one separate named innovative grant was established just in time for our spring innovative grant program. Chad Green awarded his "Chad Green Reading for Merit Innovative Grant in Honor of Katherine Snead" to Myra Ingram of Yorktown Elementary School for her grant titled, "Learning the Love of Reading".
The Innovative Instructional Grant Program is designed to provide grants to enable York County teachers to explore new techniques and develop innovative approaches to educational projects. York County citizens and businesses are encouraged to participate in the grant program by making a contribution. Contributors may fund a grant in honor or memory of a loved one. Every contribution is important and will be put to excellent use. Please make checks payable to The York Foundation for Public Education, Inc. P. O Box 1771, Yorktown, VA 23692 or call Peggy Myatt, Executive Director, at 757-898-0451.
