Grafton Middle School Marshmallow Challenge

Posted On: Thursday, April 28, 2011
Grafton Middle School (GMS) students in science classes undertook the Marshmallow Challenge. This challenge, which has been given to college students, kindergarteners as well as corporate executives, is simple. Given 18 minutes and the following material, 20 strands of spaghetti, 3 feet of tape, 3 feet of string and one large marshmallow, construct the tallest tower possible to uphold the marshmallow on top. Many teams produced a tall tower, only to see it crumple as they placed their marshmallow on top. Creativity, modeling and good teamwork at GMS produced a winning structure with a height of over 75 cm!
