Yorktown Middle is GOING GREEN

Posted On: Friday, May 13, 2011
Yorktown Middle School (YMS) students, Kaitlyn Wauzinski, Samantha Renshaw and Trysta Cassidy, were concerned about the use of styrofoam plates in the cafeteria and the environmental impact of them. Student petitions opposing the use of styrofoam plates were collected and presented to administration. Kaitlyn, Samantha, Trysta and YMS adminstration met with Aramark representatives, along with vendor representatives from Riverside Paper and Genpack on April 12. The students and vendor representatives exchanged ideas for the YMS cafeteria "Going Green."

On April 20, Aramark executive officers and Riverside Paper representatives visited YMS and presented a plaque and banner to the school. The plaque reads, "Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with Action can change the world.” Along with the vision of three students, Aramark Education joins YMS in GOING GREEN. The plaque and banner hang proudly in the YMS cafeteria.
