Posted On: Friday, September 23, 2011
Representatives from each of Yorktown Middle School’s (YMS) 1B classes, as well as representatives from York River Academy (YRA) and New Horizons Center for Autism, "pieced" a paper Freedom Flag, designed by former art teacher, Mary Hayes, and library assistant, Teri Forman, in honor of the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The day began with the faculty chorus singing The National Anthem after morning announcements. Flag "piecing" began at 8:30: YMS seventh graders placed the first red pieces, YRA students placed the white pieces and a CFA student placed the last blue piece to complete the design. Faculty memories of September 11th, 2001 were displayed so that "We Will Never Forget.”
