Monarchs Migrate from Coventry Elementary

Posted On: Friday, October 28, 2011
For the past two years, Deardre Hanline's second grade classes and the Coventry Environmental club have been working on establishing a Monarch Way Station in the school courtyard. This year they raised, tagged and released fourth generation Monarchs to migrate to Mexico for the winter. They hope to see the 5th generation return to Coventry Elementary School (CES) in the spring. Ms. Hanline said, "Our butterflies ate right from our hands before they took off! It was a very exciting learning experience for us all and we hope this work will help establish an environment for the declining Monarchs, right here in our beautiful wildlife habitat, aka, the "Cougar Courtyard."
