YCSD Awarded $2.5 Million Federal DoDEA Grant

Posted On: Thursday, July 26, 2012

The York County School Division has been awarded a $2.5 million grant from the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Educational Partnership to strengthen family-school-community relationships and enhance student achievement for military connected students.

The grant will fund efforts to improve student achievement in STEM and reading. This initiative features performance tasks that integrate digital tools and allows students to change the world through service learning and entrepreneurship. Students bring their own technology to school to learn, collaborate and work to make a difference locally, nationally and globally.

YCSD was one of 26 school divisions across the country to receive a portion of the $35 million the DoDEA awarded to military-connected school systems this year. YCSD serves students whose parents are stationed at Fort Eustis, Langley Air Force Base, Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown, Camp Peary and Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, as well as numerous military installations throughout the region and state.

“York County School Division has a strong, long-standing relationship with our local military community and is proud to have the opportunity to educate service members’ children,” said Dr. Eric Williams, Division Superintendent. “This funding will help the division build on its success in leveraging technology to support student.”
