College & Career Readiness
The York County School Division Strategic Plan prioritizes ensuring every student is valued, supported, and challenged through learning experiences, which prepare them for a successful future.
Staff have developed resources and tools for families and students to use at each level of their K-12 educational journey. We believe students are more engaged when they understand how their academic and/or technical coursework relates to future educational experiences and career possibilities. When students understand these connections early in their education, they will be better equipped to make decisions when developing their Academic and Career Plans.
In collaboration with school counselors and staff, families and students are encouraged to explore college and career interests through classes and courses, clubs, extracurricular activities, as well as military and career connections.
Together, we can achieve our collective commitment to ensure all YCSD students are Future Ready Graduates.
Life Readiness
Building Character
Character education is an integral component of YCSD's instructional program. It helps foster ethical, responsible, and caring young people by modeling and teaching good character. The following character traits were adopted from Section 22.1-208.01 of the Code of Virginia.
- Trustworthiness - Being reliable and honest in the workplace can help others feel they can depend on you.
- Respect - Speaking and acting civilly, being courteous to others and caring about their rights, beliefs and well-being helps build a positive work environment. When you demonstrate respect, others feel heard and valued.
- Responsibility - Showing reliability and consistency in speech and conduct demonstrates your ability to be accountable for one's own actions.
- Fairness - Acting in a just way in making decisions, standing up for the rights of everyone to be treated equally and honestly.
- Caring - Displaying feelings and behaviors of kindness and concern for others.
- Citizenship - Demonstrating care about one's school, community, and society by engaging in activities to support a commitment to the well-being of one's school, community, and society as a whole.
