Benefits

Group health insurance is available through Sentara Health Care with two plan options. Employees may choose between the POS 500/20 plan or the HSA 3500 plan (which includes a Health Savings Account-HSA). This HSA includes monthly contributions from YCSD, and an option for employees to contribute as well. Both plans include a vision plan and group prescription services through Optum Rx with the option of home delivery.

Group dental insurance is available through Delta Dental of Virginia with two options to suit each employee’s dental needs. YCSD offers dental insurance as a stand-alone plan; employees may enroll in the group dental plan without enrolling in the group health plan. Employees may choose between the Preferred Provider Organization (PPO Plus plan) or the Exclusive Provider Option (EPO plan).

The option to open medical and/or dependent care FSA is administered through Health Equity. These accounts are fully funded by the employees through pre-tax payroll deductions. Health Care FSA-use pre-tax funds for medical, dental, vision, and prescription expenses not covered by your insurance. Dependent Care FSA-Cover eligible childcare or elder care expenses while you (and your spouse, if applicable) work or attend school. Monthly fees for these accounts are paid by YCSD.

Employees are offered the option to pay their health and dental insurance premiums on a pre-tax basis. Electing this option allows employees to lower their taxable income which results in having more take-home pay.

YCSD employees and their household members have free, confidential access to Sentara’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services. The program provides support for personal and work-related challenges, including stress, family concerns, financial guidance, and more. Professional counselors are available 24/7 to help you and your family navigate life’s challenges.

Short-term and Long-term Disability Insurance

Disability insurance is provided for Hybrid Retirement Plan members through VRS.

Group Term Life Insurance

Regular full-time employees are automatically enrolled in a group-term life insurance program paid in full by YCSD. Securian Life Insurance Company is the provider of all life insurance benefits administered by the VRS.

Additional Optional Life Insurance

Additional life insurance is available for purchase by the employee at group rates for those who wish to supplement the basic group life insurance. Additional insurance may be purchased for the employee, their spouse and/or their children. (Not applicable to part-time employees).

Long Term Care Insurance

Administered by the VRS, underwritten by Genworth Life Insurance Company. Coverage is available for purchase through direct billing.

AFLAC

Coverage is available for purchase by employees through payroll deduction. There are different types of coverage available that may fit your family’s needs: life insurance, disability insurance, hospital coverage, accident coverage, critical illness insurance, cancer insurance, and dental insurance.

Exclusive Pet insurance administered by Nationwide. Coverage is available for purchase through direct billing.

A deferred compensation 457 plan through payroll deduction is available. This supplemental retirement plan is tax-deferred and allows a variety of investment choices through VRS or private sector.

In addition, employees may choose to participate in voluntary benefits such as retirement savings plans - tax-sheltered annuities and supplemental insurance plans. These enrollment elections can be made throughout the year.

Annual leave is for 12-month employees and is earned each month based on years of continuous service.

Sick leave is available for all benefit eligible employees and can be used for the employee’s own illness or medical appointments, illness or medical appointments for immediate family members, up to three days for a death in the immediate family members, and in observance of a religious holiday not recognized on the school calendar.

Personal Leave is available for employees who are benefit eligible for sick leave. These employees receive three days of paid personal leave annually.

In accordance with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), any employee who will be out of work more than 5 days due to a serious medical need are entitled to up to 12 work weeks of paid/unpaid leave for qualifying events in a rolling year. Special provisions for military caregiver and qualifying exigency leave are also covered under the FMLA and School Division policy.

Employees who are members of the Uniformed Services are entitled to receive up to 21 paid workdays of military leave each federal fiscal year.

Legal Resources is a supplemental employee benefit that provides high quality legal services. Identity Theft is administered through Legal Resources and is offered to employees and their families.

YCSD sponsors wellness activities/challenges and programs, and provides educational materials on social, physical, environmental and financial resources.

YCSD recognizes the importance of staff members wanting to enhance, develop and extend their professional knowledge and skills. Employees have an opportunity for tuition reimbursement up to $1,000 per full-time staff member and $500 per part-time staff member per fiscal year (July 1-June 30).
