Tabb Middle Community Service Day at Grafton Bethel

Tabb Middle School (TMS) students arrived on Tuesday, June 12th to provide service to our teachers at Grafton Bethel Elementary School (GBES). They helped with cleaning and worked with students in various learning groups, including PE. Grafton Bethel appreciates the service of these wonderful students.

On Tuesday, June 12, Tabb Middle School (TMS) eighth graders participated in a Community Service Day. Students volunteered at a variety of locations and completed activities to give back to their community. Prior to Tuesday, students participated in a t-shirt design and essay writing contest about community service. Ji Sung Kim created the winning t-shirt design and the essay contest winners include third place Grace Bowie, second place Alex Zhou, and first place Laine Elliott.


Magruder Kindergarteners Visit the White House

Sandra Murawski's Magruder Elementary School kindergarten students and their families visited and toured the White House in June. Sandra made White House tour arrangements for interested families. Families were given the date and time of the tour and met in Washington D.C. for the big event. The students and families were able to see many of the rooms within the White House. This was a wonderful opportunity for the students to gain a greater understanding of Washington D.C. and the White House.


Homing Pigeons Visit Grafton Bethel

Archie Kimberlin, great-grandfather of Kaylee Sambuchi, visited her Grafton Bethel Elementary School (GBES) class with several of his homing pigeons. He shared the history of carrier pigeons otherwise known as homing pigeons with the fourth graders in Carol Bauer's class.

For teacher appreciation week, Student Council members at Grafton Middle School (GMS) handed out breakfast to teachers. Teachers had a choice of what they wanted for breakfast. Steven Miller, a seventh grade math teacher, said, "I felt really appreciated."

Students from Grafton Middle School (GMS) enjoyed the spring weather and some kite flying. Vicki Layne's Intro to Art students made these simple kites from a single sheet of copy paper and then added colorful designs.


Coventry Elementary Environmental Club

The Coventry Environmental Club participated in the 20th annual Earth Day Celebration in Williamsburg on April 20th. Coventry Elementary School (CES) students created fashions from recyclable materials, and put on their 8th annual "Recycle Fashion Show." Students were marvelously creative in constructing their outfits, and as always, they were the highlight of the program! Club sponsors, Barbara Dunbar (Va. Master Naturalist) and Deardra Hanline (CES teacher) received an award for excellence in teaching environmental programs at CES. They also received a $100 award to support their long term project of establishing a "Monarch Waystation" in the CES courtyard.


TowneBank Partners with the York Foundation for Public Education, Inc.

In December of 2011, the York Foundation for Public Education, Inc. reached out to TowneBank to sponsor a new scoreboard for Bailey Field. Bailey Field, located on the campus of York High School, hosts athletic events for three York County School Division high schools. TowneBank has committed to fully funding this project. "At TowneBank we are committed to supporting our hometown, and I felt that it was important to support a new, modern scoreboard for Bailey Field. Bailey Field is important to the citizens, parents and students of the school division, and at TowneBank we want to compliment the quality of the school division and its students. We hope the community will enjoy the energy efficient and updated scoreboard for years to come," said Brian Skinner, Regional President.


Props for Poetry at Grafton Middle

Jill Barnes' Grafton Middle School (GMS) 7th grade English students were able to use Facetime, Prezi and Creating Props while working on their poetry projects.
