Congratulations to Grafton High Blue Crab Bowl Team

The 15th Annual Blue Crab Bowl was held March 2-3, 2012, at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Designed to inspire and challenge high school students, the Blue Crab Bowl tests competitors' knowledge of the marine sciences. The team from Grafton High School (GHS), coached by science teacher Adrienne Richardson received Fourth Place honors.

Stephanie Andrus has been named Coventry Elementary School’s (CES) Teacher of the Year. "Stephanie is a dynamic teacher in the classroom. She is open to collaborate with others to create a learning environment that meets the needs of all of her students. Stephanie's creativity and willingness to help her colleagues makes her an exceptional teacher here at Coventry Elementary School (CES). She has jumped right in to the school community and worked hard to develop positive relationships with her colleagues as well as her students. She is an inspiration to us all!"


Coventry Elementary Kicks off Read Across America

Coventry Elementary School (CES) students and staff kicked off a month long celebration of Dr. Seuss and Read Across America with a crazy hat parade and a Lorax mustache contest. Other activities throughout the month will include an essay contest, a poster contest and other fun-filled suessical days.

Yorktown Middle Students Create Cards for WWII Vets

Yorktown Middle School (YMS) seventh grade history students of Laura Sanlorenzo’s, Paul Wright’s and Stephanie Powe’s history classes created thank you cards to support Honor Flight Historic Triangle Virginia's mission to bring WWII veterans to Washington, DC, with honor. WW II veterans received their cards during "Mail Call" as they visited the WW II Memorial in Washington, D.C. The students worked under the guidance of Earl Johnson, Sheila Smith, Jackie Hill and Uneque Gaines, who work for AmeriCorps Navigators under the Volunteer Center of the Virginia Peninsula.


York High Students Win African American Trivia Bowl

In honor of African American History Month, high school students, many of whom are participants in the Committee for Minority Affairs (CFMA), competed in the annual African American History Trivia Bowl sponsored by the Langley African American Heritage Council. Teams from Grafton, Tabb, and York High Schools competed. This year, York High School (YHS) students won first place. Under the leadership of Coach Samuel Eure, the winning team consisted of Malcolm Reynolds, Marvel Taylor, Rebekah Taylor, and Joey Wilson. In the individual round, Rachel Gonsalves of Grafton High School (GHS) took home the prize.


York High’s FBLA Soar to Success!

York High School’s (YHS) Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is honored to have 25 students place at the regional level conference held at Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, Virginia on Saturday, March 3rd! The YHS FBLA now moves on to the state level conference in Reston, Virginia to be held April 13-15.


An Apple Award for Tabb High

This year, two faculty members at Tabb High School (THS) received Apple Awards. Eric Williams, Ed.D., Superintendent of the York County School Division made a surprise visit in the THS auditorium during the March 2 faculty meeting to present Kelly Queen, Education Technology Facilitator (ETF) and Roxanne O'Regan, English teacher with their "Apples".
