Tabb Middle Technology Student Association Competes in Regional CompetitionPosted on: Friday, March 09, 2012Tabb Middle School's (TMS) Technology Student Association (TSA) chapter competed at the regional competition held at Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach. There were 555 registered high school and middle school students. TMS earned one 1st place, three 2nd places and two 3rd places. The events included Dragster Design, Systems Control, Prepared Speech, and Flight Design. The TMS team will compete at the state Technosphere competition May 3-5 in Richmond. Congratulations to all of our TMS TSA participants! |
Dare Dolphins Celebrate Read Across America Tech StylePosted on: Friday, March 09, 2012To celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday and kick off Read Across America, Dare Elementary School (DES) students had Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.) on Friday, March 2nd. During this time all students went into the hallways to read silently for about 15 minutes. Dare fifth graders had the opportunity during D.E.A.R. to explore the B.Y.O.T. (Bring Your Own Technology) initiative. BYOT, already implemented at the middle and high school levels, is a pilot program for YCSD fifth graders that began the first week of March. Yorktown Middle Flies Higher with Visit from Tuskegee Airmen!Posted on: Friday, March 09, 2012Tuskegee Airmen Sgt. Harry Quinton and CMSgt. Grant Williams were the guest speakers at Yorktown Middle School's (YMS) African American History month assembly on February 27. The WWII pilots shared their stories of adversity and accomplishment, as they paved the way for full integration in the US Military. The Yorktown Fife and Drum Corps provided a patriotic prelude and eighth grade soloist Taylor Burrell sang I Believe. YMS would like to thank USAF Capt. Stephanie Jackson, Maj. Kenneth Carmichael and Lt. Col. T. J. Spann for coordinating the Tuskegee Airmen's presentation. |

Famous First Graders at Seaford ElementaryPosted on: Friday, March 09, 2012First grade classes at Seaford Elementary School (SES) demonstrated transformative learning by sharing their knowledge about Famous Americans. Each class learned about one Famous American and then presented their information in the form of a skit or slideshow to other grade levels at Seaford. The students created props and wore costumes to represent their Famous American. They also used various technologies to present facts about their Famous American. |
Seaford Elementary Celebrates Dr. SeussPosted on: Friday, March 09, 2012On March 2nd, Dr. Seuss' birthday, Seaford Elementary School (SES) kicked off Read Across America Month. The theme this year is based on the book, The Lorax. In honor of The Lorax, Seaford students created and wore recycled hats to school. Seaford will be hosting many Read Across America activities, including hosting guest readers from local schools, community workers, parents and senior citizens. |

The THS student body, faculty and staff wore black to school on Friday to show their support for this very important and ongoing campaign. Mr. LaSalle Blanks, news anchor from WVEC Television Channel 13, stopped in on Friday during the campaign awareness events. A short segment was taped for later broadcast for WVEC. |
YFPE, Inc. Grant Awarded to Joyce KuberekPosted on: Friday, March 09, 2012Joyce Kuberek, science teacher at Tabb High School (THS), is the latest York Foundation for Public Education, Inc. (YFPE, Inc.) grant recipient from THS. Joyce will use the funds to purchase software designed to allow her to record her teaching called Camtasia. She will use it to video record lessons like capturing worksheets to view on the screen with teachers demonstrating how to solve the problems and accompanying audio to explain the work. This can be saved for student viewing at other times. |
Yorktown Middle Choral Connection Pancake BreakfastPosted on: Friday, March 09, 2012The Yorktown Middle School (YMS) Choral Department will be sponsoring a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, March 17 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the YMS cafeteria. Cost is $5 per person for all you can eat and children 2 years and under are free. Baked Goods and Gift Basket raffles will also be available. Student projects are open for public viewing from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.. The Awards Ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. There will be 50 student entries from the York County School Division on display. |
