Hats Off to Wounded WarriorsPosted on: Thursday, September 15, 2011Tabb Middle School (TMS) students who made a contribution to the Hats Off to Wounded Warriors fundraiser were allowed to wear their hats during school to support the project. That afternoon the TMS athletic department supported the Wounded Warrior Project by holding a charity scrimmage game between the Tabb Middle School and Grafton Middle School Football Teams, where donations were accepted at the gate. |

“Virtual High School: York County Public Library & School Division Partnership” Program Wins NACO AwardPosted on: Thursday, September 15, 2011The York County School Division Virtual High School (VHS) Program was the recipient of the NACO Award for their collaboration with the York County Public Libraries. Kevin Smith and Reggie Fox worked together to create a program where VHS students could complete online coursework in the library if they did not have computer access or if they needed a quiet place to work. Many of the VHS students have taken advantage of this opportunity and been most successful. The Achievement award was presented by the National Association of Counties (NACO) to Reggie Fox and Kevin Smith for their 2011 participation in the “Virtual High School: York County Public Library & School Division Partnership” program. Congratulations to Reggie and Kevin. |

Yorktown Student Attends Summer Academy at NASAPosted on: Monday, August 01, 2011Michael Bittner spent a week of his summer planning a mission to Mars. Bittner, a student from Grafton High School in Yorktown, Va., was one of 48 rising high school seniors from across the Commonwealth selected to take part in the Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (VASTS) academy. The academy was held July 9-July 15 at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va., and was hosted by NASA Langley in partnership with the Virginia Space Grant Consortium. Prior to the academy, the students completed a six-month interactive distance-learning program on aerospace exploration that prepared them for their intensive week at NASA Langley. |
Yorktown Elementary Fifth Grade CelebrationPosted on: Tuesday, July 05, 2011Yorktown Math, Science, and Technology Elementary School (YES) fifth grade students commemorated the end of their elementary school years with a day long celebration. The day began with a procession to the school auditorium to an awards ceremony that recognized academic and citizenship achievements. Students dressed for the occasion and parents were on hand for the ceremony. Field day activities and a special lunch rounded out the day. |
