Yorktown Middle is GOING GREENPosted on: Friday, May 13, 2011Yorktown Middle School (YMS) students, Kaitlyn Wauzinski, Samantha Renshaw and Trysta Cassidy, were concerned about the use of styrofoam plates in the cafeteria and the environmental impact of them. Student petitions opposing the use of styrofoam plates were collected and presented to administration. Kaitlyn, Samantha, Trysta and YMS adminstration met with Aramark representatives, along with vendor representatives from Riverside Paper and Genpack on April 12. The students and vendor representatives exchanged ideas for the YMS cafeteria "Going Green." |

York County Supervisor, Tom Shepperd and Operations Manager, Steve Miller of Alion presented the $2,500 grant check to Angie Seiders and THS during a short ceremony on April 29. The grant will be used for an "Ecosystem Exploration Project" in the science department and the "Hands on Solid of Rotation/Revolution" and "FUN Functions" projects in the math department. |
